Meet The Team

Marcus Ward - Director

Marcus

 

Marcus is a lifelong naturalist with special interests in birds, mammals, moths, and fungi. He is well known for his work with Hawfinch, as well as leading the Pine Marten project, spending hundreds of hours in the field each year studying these species.

A bird-ringing trainer, Marcus runs a team of 12 ringers as part of the New Forest Ringing Group. He is also a popular speaker, regularly delivering illustrated talks to a wide range of audiences.

When not pursuing his Hawfinch obsession, Marcus can often be found at his local patch, Lymington–Keyhaven Marshes, where he has documented numerous scarce and rare species over the years.

Emily-Louise - Director

Emily-Louise is passionate about all aspects of wildlife, with a particular fascination for fungi.

She has been instrumental in establishing the Wildlife Explorers Club and coordinates the bi-annual Wildlife Camp, where her legendary quizzes are always a highlight.

 

Emily-Louise is also a trainee bird ringer, with the Nightjar holding a special place as her favourite species.

Jamie is an all-round naturalist and trainee bird ringer.

A regular face on all outings from the outset and co-leading some of our family and young person walks.

Jamie is best known for his photography, with many of his images featured on this website.

Amy is a trainee bird ringer with a passion for all wildlife.

Amy has become a key member of the team with a specialism in finding the small and obscure species.

Tiffany is in charge of baking cakes for the boat trips;

Her chocolate brownies have become rightfully famous.

Tiffany regularly attends walks during the holidays; her favourite bird is the House Martin.

Tara Squire - Volunteer

Tara is the matriarch of the team, a regular with Amy on tours helping find interesting specimens.

Tara is a trainee bird ringer and bakes excellent Dorset Apple Cake, which keeps teams' spirits up on those cold early mornings!

Rob is one of our dedicated volunteers and regularly supports our Wildlife Camps.

He has a particular passion for goshawks and a wealth of experience in nest finding in the New Forest, bringing valuable knowledge and field skills to our team.

New Forest Ringing Group

The New Forest Ringing Group is led by trainer Marcus Ward and supported by a skilled team of licensed ringers and enthusiastic trainees. Together, they play a vital role in monitoring and conserving bird populations across the New Forest.
