About the event
Bolderwood is home to an impressive mixture of ancient woodland, veteran trees and towering conifers, including Douglas firs that have stood here for well over 150 years. This landscape has been shaped over centuries by grazing animals, woodland management and its long history as part of the Royal Forest.
Autumn brings a wonderful transformation. As the canopy changes colour and the woodland floor comes alive with fungi, we'll explore how the forest and its wildlife are preparing for the months ahead.
Bolderwood is also well known for its deer, and we'll look for signs of their presence and, with luck, encounter some during our walk. Autumn is an especially interesting time for deer, as the rut brings a change in behaviour and activity within the Forest.
Along the way we'll discover some of Bolderwood's remarkable veteran trees, explore the importance of dead and decaying wood, search for fungi and keep…
