Our walk will follow the Lymington River and seawall around Normandy Marsh, offering panoramic views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight, Hurst Castle, and The Needles.
On the return route via the "ancient highway" and Normandy Lane, we’ll have ample opportunities to uncover the rich history of these marshlands.
The Lymington-Keyhaven Marshes are nationally renowned for their diverse wildlife, presenting close-up views of a wide variety of bird species as well as unique flora and fauna. Every visit to this coastal area brings new surprises, with breathtaking views and chances for memorable wildlife encounters.
We’ll also delve into the fascinating history of the marshes, from their origins in the Iron Age to the heyday of the salt industry and the area’s strategic role during World War II. Stories of smuggling, imprisoned kings, and past invasions bring this area’s past to life.
