Hawfinch Roost Walk

Join us in the heart of the New Forest for a rare opportunity to search for one of Britain’s most secretive woodland birds.

At dawn or dusk, Hawfinches may gather at traditional roost sites — a remarkable natural event that very few people ever get to experience.

During this walk, we’ll visit one of over 50 known Hawfinch roost sites within the New Forest and talk all things Hawfinch, including their ecology, behaviour, seasonal movements, and why the Forest is such an important stronghold for the species.The exact location will be emailed to participants a few days before the walk.

As with all wildlife experiences, sightings can never be guaranteed, but even without views, this walk offers a fascinating insight into one of our most elusive birds and the winter woodland habitats they depend on.
