About the event
Join us for a peaceful two-hour walk through the ancient woodlands and quiet heathland edges of Acres Down, one of the New Forest’s most cherished birdwatching locations. This gentle guided walk is the perfect opportunity to slow down, listen closely, and enjoy the rich birdlife of this beautiful landscape.
As we wander through mature oak and beech woodland, open glades, and heathland clearings, we’ll be tuning in to the Forest’s characteristic sounds. We’ll be listening for the fluting song of Woodlark as it delivers its display flight over sunny clearings, the distinctive calls of Redstart and Firecrest, and the drumming of Great or Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers. With luck, we may spot Treecreepers, Nuthatches, and perhaps even a Goshawk circling high above the canopy.
This walk is suitable for all experience levels — from beginners keen to build confidence in identifying birds by sight and sound, to experienced birders hoping to enjoy Acres Down’s specialities.
