Wildlife Explorers Club Newsletter

A huge thank you to all our Wildlife Explorers for making the start of 2025 so fantastic!

Kicking Off the Year

Our first meeting of the year took us on an insightful walk around Normandy Marshes, where we observed a diverse array of coastal bird species. It was a fantastic way to begin the year, offering valuable learning opportunities and excellent wildlife encounters.

A highlight of the season so far was the Hawfinch Roost Walk, one of our most popular excursions. This exceptional experience provided a rare opportunity to witness these elusive woodland finches as they gathered at dusk, making it a standout moment for all in attendance.

We had a nice visit to Hockey’s Farm, where we spent an informative hour learning about sustainable farming practices and the role of responsible land management in supporting biodiversity.

Following this, we explored the surrounding woodland, observing a variety of bird species and bringing the session to a rewarding close.

Exciting Events Ahead!

We have some fantastic activities coming up, including:

✔ Heathland Birds - Discover the species that thrive in this unique habitat

✔ BioBlitz – A hands-on wildlife survey experience

✔ Hawfinch Ringing – A chance to see these rare birds up close

✔ New Forest Flora – Exploring the plant life that makes the New Forest so special

Welcoming New Members

We’re thrilled to welcome new members this year and delighted to see the club growing! It’s fantastic to share these experiences with so many like-minded young wildlife enthusiasts.

A Big Thank You!

We are incredibly grateful to Naturetrek and Love the Forest for sponsoring us and making this group possible. Their support allows us to continue offering these amazing opportunities for young nature lovers.

We would also like to extend a thank you to Tara for her incredible dedication and support in running the Wildlife Explorers Club. Her invaluable contributions in guiding and ensuring everything runs smoothly have played a huge role in the group's success. Her hard work and commitment make all the difference, and we truly couldn’t do it without her!

Can You Help?

If you have any spare binoculars, field guides, or other birdwatching gear that you no longer need, we’d love to give them a new home with our young Wildlife Explorers. Having extra equipment would help more children enjoy and connect with nature, even if they don’t have their own gear.

If you’d like to contribute, please drop us a message or email us at emilylouise@wildnewforest.co.uk.

We truly appreciate your support in inspiring the next generation of wildlife lovers!
